NEW CALEDONIA: Colonial Legacy, Struggle for Self-Determination, and the 2024 Crisis
New Caledonia is not merely a remote archipelago in the South Pacific. It is a land where two worlds continue to collide: the indigenous Kanak people, who have lived on these lands for millennia, and «imperial France» — which continues to maintain control — albeit under a new, «democratic» facade. Behind the lofty rhetoric of republican values and equality lies a centuries-old history of colonial oppression, violent land seizures, mass deportations, and attempts to suppress the very existence of the Kanak people.
